Life and Pilates in Siem Reap Cambodia

One of my goals when moving to Cambodia was establishing a Pilates community. Having owned my studio, The Pilates Loft of Newnan, for 18+ years in Georgia, I did not want to jump into being a studio owner. I more wanted to bring Pilates to Siem Reap and create connections between studios and Pilates Practitioners throughout Southeast Asia. I was fortunate to attend an Nia - https://nianow.com/ workshop shortly after I arrived in Siem Reap. Mind you, I knew nothing about Nia but, knew I had to be involved in the fitness community beyond Yoga. I knew the minute I walked through the garden gates of Alchemy, I want to be part of the team. AND I AM! Teaching two times a week, group mat classes at 9:00 Monday and Friday. It has been a big change for my teaching as I taught 90% private sessions in my US studio. Getting back to the basics and the foundation of Joseph Pilates work has been critical to not only my personal practice but to the way I teach. Defining the Pilates Principles, incorporating all I learned about Pre-Pilates with Lolita San Miguel and Eve’s (Gentry) Foundations has helped my class participants become Pilates strong.
So what does my Pilates future in Southeast Asia hold? Who KNOWS! I do plan on bringing a Certification Program to the region, connecting studio owners and Pilates Practitioners in order to further educate one and other and continuing to spread the Pilates Method philosophy to a heavy Yoga population.
